I was absolutely gobsmacked by the scale and commitment which Etihad Airlines brings to its sponsorship of Manchester City F.C. - (the UK's richest club).
Leaving Joburg on a flight to London, I happened across the airline's specially designed Airbus A330-200 wearing the club's sky blue colours. Because my own photo didn't turn out too well, I have embedded one of the same plane found on this website
The partnership celebrated the airline's new route between Abu Dhabi and Manchester - but benefits the club in that awareness of it's name is built in a multitude of other destinations. (Eithad, founded in 2003 now serves over 70 destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific Region)
Another feature of the partnerhsip included the sponsorship of 12 Etihad branded Hackney Taxi Cabs in Manchester - accompanied by a "spot the cab" competition.
Other aspects of the partnership include:
- Man City's stadium renamed Etihad Stadium
- Shirt sponsorship

American airline Jet Blue recently unveiled its Boston Redsox themed Airbus A320.
